Edmund Schweitzer

Edmund O. Schweitzer, III is president of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. Schweitzer is credited with creating the first digital protective relay in 1982, revolutionizing the protection industry. He is a visiting professor at Mexico’s Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Monterrey, and guest professor at the University of Wisconsin’s Department of Engineering Professional Development. He received his BSEE degree and MSEE  from Purdue University in 1968 and 1971 respectively. He earned his PhD at Washington State University in 1977 and is an IEEE Fellow. Author and co-author of more than 30 technical papers, Schweitzer also holds more than 30 patents. He is a member of Eta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi.

Hector Altuve

Hector J. Altuve received his BSEE in 1969 from the Central University of Las Villas, Santa Clara, Cuba, and his PhD in 1981 from Kiev Polytechnic Institute, Kiev, Ukrania, with “Development of Directional and Non-Directional Static Overcurrent Relays for Distribution Networks” as his dissertation topic. His main research  interests are in power systems protection and control. In 1999-2000, he served as the Schweitzer Visiting Professor at Washington State University’s Department of Electrical Engineering . Author of more than 80 technical papers, Dr. Altuve serves as professor, Graduate Doctoral Program, FIME, at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Monterrey, and N.L., Mexico, for the past seven years and continues to instruct there on a part-time basis. In 2001, Altuve joined SEL as a senior research engineer based out of Monterrey, Mexico. He is an IEEE senior member.
